CARLISLE College students have been inspired by a creative enterprise in the city – with exciting summer internship opportunities.
Rachael Bagshaw, CEO and Founder of Just R, and her team spoke to a group of art and design students on Thursday, intending to inspire young creatives with talks about job opportunities in Carlisle.
Digital marketing and creative opportunities are scarce in Carlisle, and with working from home having become much more accessible in recent years due to the ongoing pandemic, opportunities for young people to work locally in Cumbria are needed more than ever.
Rachael spoke of her passion for creating diverse and exciting career opportunities in Cumbria, with her vision to further expand the business to create more dynamic jobs in the northern town.
Third-year art and design students were encouraged to reflect on their dreams for the future, with many expressing their passion for design, film, television and games, but feeling that Carlisle is not did not offer enough variety. They could not see their future in the city due to the lack of opportunities.
They heard from members of the Just R team who shared their own experiences and journeys leading to their work at the company.
The conference was organized by Alf Phillips, head of the art and design course at the college. He said: “The ‘how we got here’ section was really inspiring. Many students shared how Just R managed to not have a specific plan, but how passion for something made the difference.
