With digital media producing impressive content, audiences are now spoiled for choice. And hence, they don’t take long to dismiss TV shows. In 2020, many soap operas were taken off the air in just a few months.

Considering the shocking value of seeing Jennifer Winget in a negative avatar, Beyhadh (2016) became an overnight success. Wanting to capitalize on its popularity, the creators launched its second season in December 2019. Besides Winget, the series also starred Shivin Narang and Ashish Chowdhry. However, the audience categorically rejected the revenge drama, given that it had a similar storyline. With nothing new to offer, the series abruptly ended in March.

With a star cast with names like Sunil Grover, Shilpa Shinde, Sugandha Mishra, Upasana Singh among others, there was a lot of expectation from Gangs of Filmistaan. The one-of-a-kind series was touted as the perfect blend of fiction and non-fiction genre. However, a controversy in the early days with Shinde accusing the manufacturers of exploiting the actors led to a negative buzz. Moreover, the show aired on Star Bharat, which has a relatively smaller viewership, has not helped its cause.

Mahesh Bhatt made a big comeback on television by supporting the ambitious Dil Jaise Dhadke project… Dhadakne Do. Originally titled Jannat, the show focuses on a man, who has given up on worldly affairs, and promotes a young child as the return of a goddess to earth. The show only aired 38 episodes and was interrupted due to the pandemic-induced lockdown. Soon, Star Plus announced that it would be canceling the show because it didn’t get high marks.

Dadi Amma… Dadi Amma Maan Jaao brought together veteran actors Seema Biswas and Mohan Joshi for the first time on screen. The Rajshri Productions drama wanted to highlight the relationship between Millennials and their grandparents. While the series had good intentions, given the days of fast-paced broadcasts, there was hardly any buzz about it. After filming stopped due to the lockdown, the channel announced that it would not be bringing back the daily due to its low audiences.

After three successful seasons, Naagin 4, with Nia Sharma, Jasmin Bhasin and Vijayendra Kumeria in the lead roles, has had no impact. The season has been taken off the air and a new season has kicked off, which also sits average on the TRP roster.
