The former NFL star’s campaign was marred by controversy, but even so, Walker easily won Georgia’s Republican Senate primary.
Herschel Walker and his bid for the U.S. Senate seat from Georgia have been plagued with controversy from the start, but one example contrasted with his image as a family man.
In a recent report by The Daily Beast, it was revealed that not only did the former NFL star try to keep three of his children out of the public spotlight – which has already been reported – but he also allegedly lied to his campaign staff about them. .
Walker is currently in the middle of his campaign for the US Senate against current Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock, but despite Walker’s recent snafus, some polls indicate a close race is ahead. However, it should be noted that a Quinnipiac University poll showed Warnock with a solid 10-point lead over Walker.
Via an explosive pair of exclusive stories from The Daily Beast in June, it emerged that Walker, 60, has denied rumors that he has any other children than is publicly known.
The Daily Beast’s first report revealed that Walker fathered an underage son, adding that the child’s mother sued Walker for paternity and alimony claims around a decade ago. The outlet added that the boy lives about 1,500 miles from Walker and the Republican senatorial hopeful has little contact with the child.
After The Daily Beast published this story, it emerged in the following report that Walker had another pair of children, an adult daughter fathered while Walker was in college and another underage boy.
Christian Walker, 22, was the only child apparently acknowledged by Walker, with the son campaigning online on his father’s behalf. The ages of the boys, whose names the outlet did not reveal for privacy reasons, are 13 and 10. The girl’s age was not given.
Campaign aides reportedly came to Walker last winter after whispers of children in hiding began to swirl, but those claims were dismissed by the candidate. However, staffers, anticipating a denial, showed evidence that Walker was indeed the father of another child unbeknownst to the campaign. Walker would later admit to being the father, but said the other children’s chatter should be ignored, but that too turned out to be true.
Beyond Walker trying to keep his children’s knowledge from the public eye, he’s also faced allegations of domestic abuse, goofing off in public appearances, murky business practices, and more.
Walker has enjoyed endorsements from the likes of former President Donald Trump and U.S. Senator John Thune (DS.D.). Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell did not fully endorse Walker, but said in a quote to Politico last year that he would be a “good candidate.”
