Whether it’s in self-isolation, social distancing, or full quarantine, we suddenly find ourselves with more downtime than usual.
Travel was cut, events canceled, and time spent with friends and neighbors was suspended.
Lost Girls (Netflix)
Around the same time everyone was being told to stay home, Netflix added this recent Sundance pick to its lineup of streaming movies. The Kenney’s Beach area in Southold doubles as Oak Beach in this story about the family of one of the Gilgo Beach victims. The Mattituck Motel is also prominent throughout the film.
Orange is the New Black Season 2 Episode 1 (Netflix)
It’s hard to miss the Suffolk Theater in this episode of one of Netflix’s first popular original series, which was directed by legendary Jodie Foster. It also includes scenes at the Riverside County Jail, but let’s hope these are less recognizable to you.
The Devil’s Own (Amazon, $ 3.99)
Never was there more power in North Fork than when they shot scenes for Brad Pitt-Harrison Ford’s thriller “The Devil’s Own” in Greenport. One of Captain Bob Hamilton’s fishing boats was used in the footage.
Emergence, Season 1, Episode 1 (Hulu)
They call it Southold, but much of this supernatural crime thriller was filmed in New Jersey. Yet from the start of the pilot episode, you’ll see recognizable local locations.
Girls Season 3 Episode 7 (HBO NOW)
It seems like a long time ago, the popular HBO Girls series filmed an entire episode about a trip to a beach house on North Fork. Like most episodes in the show, they fight, dance, and have a good laugh.
The Sopranos, Season 5, Episode 7 (HBO NOW)
While each of these North Fork episodes and movies vary in quality, there’s no denying the Sopranos’ place on TV’s Mount Rushmore. While not meant to be the North Fork, this episode features scenes filmed at Riverhead Raceway.
The Way, Season 2, Episode 13 (Hulu)
Greenport was in turmoil when Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul filmed scenes from his follow-up series on Front Street in 2017. The series portrayed members of a fictional cult-like religion. Greenport scenes are meant to take place elsewhere
The Romantics (Amazon Prime)
There’s a lot of star power and North Fork scenery in this otherwise underwhelming 2010 romantic comedy. You might recognize familiar faces as extras and The Old Field Vineyards as the wedding destination.
The Undoing (HBO NOW) premieres May 10
We don’t know too much about this limited series, but the trailer shows scenes filmed at East Marion and its release date comes at a time when you might run out of things to watch. It also stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant. Not too bad for something filmed on little old North Fork.
